Kiwi maths research goes global

Research on the best ways to teach and learn maths, in which NZEI played a key role, has been picked up by UNESCO and the International Academy of Education.

Its 10 key findings have been summarized and translated into several languagesready for worldwide distribution.
Published by the Ministry of Education, Effective Pedagogy in Mathematics and Te Ako Pāngarau Whaihua were written by Professors Glenda Anthony and Margaret Walshaw from Massey University. NZEI advised on its development to ensure its usefulness for teachers.
Free hard copies of the BES are available for teachers from orders@thechair.minedu.govt.nz
At the request of NZEI, New Zealand schools, kura and university colleges of education will receive copies of the summaries in May 2011. Further booklets can be downloaded from: www.ibe.unesco.org/services/publications/educational-practices.html
